After much negotiation and maneuvering, the Iglesia Evangélica Unida de Puerto Rico came into being in 1931. The Constitution began with a Creed, Nuestro Credo. It defined the theological common ground for this union of Congregational, United Brethren in Christ, and Christian Churches. Other denominations that had participated in union negotiations, but did not join, including Presbyterians and Methodists, also had a hand in preparing the document.
